Toma tu poder. (Spanish)

Crochet Sample Book with Tracey Todhunter

CROCHET SAMPLER BOOK
Exploring 200 more crochet stitches with Tracey Todhunter.

Hi, Creatives!

I always wanted to do a Crochet Stitches Sampler Book and the time has come!

Antique Crochet Book

A few weeks ago, I was walking into town to get my second jab and something really beautiful happens because there is something no more amusing than when creativity brings you back to your feet.

After losing a job role actual company I work for. I was down, lacking in motivation, and a bit sad. Anyway, next to the jab center, there is a sewing shop and I decided to go in and curious around.

When I arrive at the books section, the first book that my eyes could see was this one:

I really felt dragged into it, and when I grabbed it, inspiration came instantly. It was like, I could already see all that I was about to come, like kind of a vision of the future! And a voice said:

“Create a Crochet Stitches Sample Book exploring this book and put it out there to whoever is a crochet mad like you”

The feeling was so intense and for a moment I completely forgot about the all frustration.

So YES!

If you are a looking for learning something new,  you already Crochet but would like to explore your creativity or you just want to join a Crochet Gang, all you need to do is follow me in YouTube and social media to get the best of this project, is totally FREE, however, it will make me feel so rich! :)

Thanks to Tracey for creating an amazing crochet book, to the loving forces of the Universe which dragged me into it, and thanks to all crochet fellows.

Bless day!

What you might not know about Mindfulness.

One of the most widespread myths about mindfulness is that it always promotes relaxation. Unfortunately it isn't always the case".

Betsan Corkhill in her book Crochet Therapy.

The purpose of mindfulness is the acceptance of your thoughts, emotions and sensations and learning to let them go.

So yes, my friend, it can be normal if you feel a bit uncomfortable with this practice initially as you will have to face not particularly nice things sometimes to then let them go.

This can include thoughts, emotions, or sensations that may be unpleasant. There has to be a willingness to notice the difficulties and to be open to whatever arises.

With practice, you can switch off the stress response to problems that arise to enable your body's natural healing system to kick in faster and a feeling of calm to develop in place of a tense, stressed-out one. Learning to accept adverse experiences he's you to respond in a measured way rather than reaction uncontrollably.

Mindfulness isn't a process of emptying your mind, either, On the contrary, it's one of being aware of everything going on in your mind body and the space around you. Neither is it about positive thinking or having a particular religious belief. You can learn to live mindfully whatever your background and culture.

Crochet can help you to start this practice in your life. Be fully focus on whatever is happening between your hands. Marvel at the yarn colors and textures and the means by which a beautiful fabric can be created with a simple hook and string.

Hoping that you find this interesting and wishing you peace of mind! :)

Blessings

But... What is Upcycling?

This is what google says:

reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.

This is what Wikipedia says:

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products perceived to be of greater quality, such as artistic value or environmental value.

For me: Upcycling is attitude. It makes me wonder, it awakes my creativity and it serves me as a tool to help the planet.

I Believe upcycling is a wonderful chance to start a fashion revolution and an opportunity to develop a closer relationship with our clothes and bodies. Everyone is Unique, so as a consequence we can not pretend that we all can fit in the same clothes right?

I still have a lot to explore with this blow-minding positive technique, but so far I am very satisfied, it becomes like each garment is a creative adventure that later, it becomes physical, I can wear it and feel comfortable and proud.

Combined Upcycling and crochet, forces me to follow and develop my intuition, flow with creativity free of judgment (as no need to follow a specific crochet pattern) which reflexes in my day by day increasing my confidence and self-esteem.

And for you? what does Upclycling means?

Dance!

When your mind does none stop driving you from one thing into another leaving you exhausted, STOP and DANCE!

One of my favourites lately:

I am that I am by Peter Tosh

Lyrics
I'm not in this world
To live up to your expectations
Neither are you here to live up to mine, yeah
I don't owe no one
No obligation
No, I don't mean none
So everything is fine, fine
I said, I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
Don't underestimate
My ability
Don't definite my character
Don't belittle my authority
It's time you recognized my quality
I said, I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I said, I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
Learn to love
To love your brother
Don't covet your neighbour
Flee from the city
It's getting shitty
It is full of out-a-quity
I said, I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am that I am
I am, I am, I am
I am the rock of the ages
You cannot move I at all
I am the son of lightning
You cannot move I at all
Son of Jacob
Cannot move me at all
I am the son of Moses
You can't move I at all
I am the son of David
You cannot move I at all
I am a firm ripe diamond
You cannot move I at all
You could a shed more tears
You cannot move I at all
You could a full of evil
You cannot move I at all
You could a try more nuttin'
You cannot move I at all
And you can try make a something
That can't move I at all
And could a come with ism
You can't move I at all
And could come with skism
That can't move I at all

Crochet inspired by Bowler Hat.

Here, the written pattern for this quick and easy crochet inspired by Bowler hat.

Hoping that you enjoy as I do. This project is simple but very therapeutic as you will work in Circles. Also, does not involve a lot of counting so... you can just stitch and relax :)

Circles are an Universal Symbol. They mean wholeness, unity an inclusion, the cycle of life and the seasons. Perfection. They also remind us about nurturing, eternity and timeless.

Working in rounds is calming and peaceful, I believe, because we start and end circles which are a natural geometrical forms of life itself.

STITCHES (UK terminology)

You will need to know how to start working in rounds, treble crochet, half treble, double crochet and slip stitch.

if you need help

MATERIALS:

I am using a rescued acrylic, nylon and wool yarn.

A 5.5mm crochet hook

Scissors

Wool needle to wave ends.

PATTERN

We are going to work in rounds. The first chain stitches of each round are not count as a stitch. Starting with a round of 12treble crochet followed by three rounds increasing, will give us a total of 48 stitches.  Then continue for 10 more rounds with 1 treble crochet (tr) per stitch. To end we will make a round of half treble (htr) and a round of double crochet (dc). In total 16 rounds. Each round is closed with a slip stitch (slst).

Start: make a magic ring or chain circle.

1- chain 3 and work 12tr inside circle.

2- First round of increasing. Ch3 + 2tr in same stitch. Continue 2tr in each stitch all way around. Close the round with a slst in the 4th chain from beginning. Total of 24 stitches.

3- Second round increasing. Ch3 + 2tr in same stitch. Continue (1tr in next stitch, 2tr in next) all way around. Close the round with a slst in the 4th chain from beginning. Total of 36 stitches.

4- Third round inc. Ch3 + 2tr in same stitch. Continue (1tr in next stitch, 1tr in next, 2tr in next) all way around. Close the round with a slst in the 4th chain from beginning. Total of 48 stitches.

5 – 14 – Ch3 + 1tr in same stitch. Continue 1tr in each stitch all way around. Close the round with a slst in the 4th chain from beginning. Total of 48 stitches.

15- Ch2 + 1htr in same stitch. Continue 1htr in each stitch all way around. Close the round with a slst in the 3th chain from beginning. Total of 48 stitches.

16- Ch1 + 1dc in same stitch. Continue 1dc in each stitch all way around. Close the round with a slst in the 2th chain from beginning. Total of 48 stitches.

Fasten off and wave ends

Enjoy your hat!

Tear Drop Dreamcatcher Hoops

I do love making my own Hoops as they involve to get out the house and get into the woods!

I pick up branches that has fallen or they have been cut from trees but they are still green. If they are too dry the stick will snap when we bend it to create our hoop.

Then clean the leaves and parts that you won´t need and grab a bit of wire.

Now put both ends of the stick together forming a loop! And hold them with wire. That is!
Easy-peasy pet!

Foundation Chain / UK Treble Crochet / Fasten Off (Cadena de Inicio, punto alto, fin)

------ ENGLISH / ESPAÑOL -------

A FOUNDATION CHAIN is a row of chain stitches that we make to start our crochet work. It will determinate de size of our piece.
Simple make a slip knot and start chain.
To start TREBLE, chain 3, yarn over and insert the hook in the 5th chain from the hook, pull thread through the stitch, this will give you 3 loops in the hook; yarn over and pass 2 loops; yarn over and pass the last 2 loops to end the stitch. Keep going 1 treble crochet in each chain stitch of your foundation chain. You need to end with the same number of trebles as chain stitches of your foundation chain.

To START NEW ROW, chain 3 this will count as your first treble, TURN your work, yarn over and insert the hook in the 5th chain from the hook, pull thread through the stitch, this will give you 3 loops in the hook; yarn over pass 2 loops; yarn over and pass the last 2 loops to end the stitch. Keep going 1 treble crochet in each treble form previous row... ... and keep keep going! this is the process! make it as long as you wish! Each row must have same number of stitches.
FASTEN OFF: When you are finished, chain 1 and pull the yarn through. (you can weave the ends with a wool needle or leave it as it)

NOTE: this is how I crochet and it feels good for me. I believe it is important to do as you feel happy. The aim of my videos is not to tell you this is right or wrong, just simple be a guidance to awake your creativity.

Gracias! xo

Making Tags / Crochet / Upcycling

Become an IMPERFECT ACTIVIST (Español > sigue link al final)

How we can help environment with little actions?

Every little counts!  Budda said: "try to sleep in a room with a mosquito" what a nightmare! and everyone can be that mosquito or that ant making a huge act.

Everyone can be sustainable with small changes. We tell you what it is the "imperfect activist"

is your Mother!

As Eduardo Galeano said, "a lot of little people, in small places, doing small things, can change the whole world". To be an imperfect activist means to do whatever is in your hand with the intention of creating a positive change in the world.

In times where climate change claims quick and efficient actions, it is required everyone's commitment. The sum of small thousand acts make the difference.

HOW TO BE AN IMPERFECT ACTIVIST, BUT ACTIVE?

The most important thing is to take the first step inside of our possibilities. Also get rid of false believes: we can not make drastic changes, or all of the sudden become environment experts. Wonder about your diary habits and think about which ones you could change today.

of course, never do this!

What if you start a more minimalistic style of life, buying only what you need? Biking instead car? Why not to start compost for your garden? Wondering about this will help you to find what is at your hand to contribute.

I enjoy myself upcycling plastic bags into cute pouches.

To watch how I make them go >>>>> Upcycled Plastic Pouch

Choose a day of the week without meat, investigate about the product's origin, buy local, or change some plastic for reusable materials.

To be aware of the impact of our actions is very important. You will feel better and proud, your inner peace will be rewarded. Do not be scared! the path to sustainability is full of learning.

Share your new passion with your family and friends and together learn new craft skills, recycle, upcycle, learn how to safe energy at home.

CALM YOUR MIND - Observing the Neddle (English)

A POWERFUL EXERCISE

I personally practice this when my mind does not shut up and I feel overwhelmed. It calms me down, it brings my focus back and it makes me feel grounded.

The aim in here is not crocheting a particular item, It is just to practice some stitches to calm and relax. However, I do enjoy making crazy hats!

CONCIOUS STITCHING (Exercise)

Grab your yarn and your hook, and sit down in a comfortable position. I like in my yoga mat crossed leg but you can sit in a chair or sofa, just make sure your back is straight and your shoulders relax.

Choose a stitch to work with (I do like UK treble crochet) and prepare your foundation chain. I normally chain 10 but feel free to choose your number.

If you are not sure how to do UK treble follow this quick video tutorial I made:

Now, start your first row of stitches being fully focus in what is happening between your hands. Observing when the needle goes into the stitch, how it grabs the yarn and pulls it back through the loops going out, how your hands moves to yarn over and so on.
Repeat as many rows as you need during 5 o 10 minutes, (or as long as desired).

To keep me focus I like to repeat this in my head:

When the needle goes into the stitch I say: "Needle goes in"
When the needle goes out of the stitch I say: "Needle goes out"

In this way I keep my mind free of any other ideas that might come in and interrupt my practice.

TO SUCCEED

This exercise is very simple, yet its effects are profound. To succeed we must put our whole attention in the needle and nowhere else. We need to be watched of distracting thoughts. If any arises we let them go.
It is just few minutes, things will remain there and in fact, we will be able to approach them from a better perspective after our practice.

Remember, no one else can take responsibility of yourself apart from yourself.
Create, connect, heal.

CROCHET HACKING by Emma Friendlander - BOOK REVIEW (Spanish)

Hola!

Happy Monday!
